Take Control Of Your Tax Bill And Make Your Taxes Count!

Mandisa Education - Main

Mandisa Education NPC is a non profit company that aims to improve South African society by alleviating poverty in underprivileged communities by offering accessible education and employment opportunities.

This is achieved by sponsoring young adults, aged 15 – 35, to complete their schooling and learn skills to earn a living, including being able to offer schooling to others via a business opportunity as a way to start earning a living and understanding money. All sponsorships are fully tax deductible, with donations from sponsors being credited towards their tax bill. This means your sponsoring students through us not only helps make South Africa a better place for all of us but costs you nothing as the amount you sponsor can be legally deducted from your tax liability. It is a win/win situation for both you and the sponsored student!

As a sponsor, you decide how many students you wish to sponsor per year, and then pay us the agreed to amount per student, annually in advance. We then issue a SARS approved certificate from Mandisa Education that you submit with your tax return, and you are credited with the sponsored amount. In other words, if your tax liability is R1 million for the year and you pay us R500 000, you receive a tax credit certificate from us for that R500 000. You would then submit that certificate to SARS with your tax return and would only pay SARS R500 000 (Your original tax liability of R1 million less the R500 000 you donated to Mandisa Education NPC). So you pay half to Mandisa Education and half to SARS. Mandisa Education will issue a Certificate of Donation to all sponsors that make payments and this is used as evidence to secure the tax credit that is due.

Why would you want to sponsor?

Sponsoring with us allows you to know where and how your tax Rands are being spent. It gives you total control over the results that your “tax” spend is achieving. If you don’t sponsor and simply pay all the money over to SARS, you have no control whatsoever as to how your tax money is being allocated or spent. You pay us and we deliver results to you that demonstrate value for money and we assure you that there is no wastage, corruption, theft or mismanagement. If you pay SARS, can you say the same thing?

Why would you want to sponsor via Mandisa Education and not elsewhere?

We offer a cost effective way for you, the sponsor, to make a meaningful impact on the lives of each individual recipient, and more importantly to have some control over where your money goes and how it is spent. If you sponsor underprivileged education via other non profit companies, you simply pay an amount that goes towards their global overhead without you knowing exactly how the money is allocated. Your contribution is paid into a big “pot” that is then co-mingled and allocated to various programs over which you have no control. This is a very inefficient way of managing and spending your money and offers little accountability in return, which would otherwise ensure you receive the best value for your money.

Your donation contributes towards what each student or job seeker needs per year. Your donation allows you to sponsor a student or job seeker based anywhere in the country and receive feedback on that student and know where and how your money is being spent. It comes with clearly defined deliverables and clear cut accountability in the form of knowing exactly whom you have sponsored and how they are progressing. After each year, you will receive feedback which allows you to see exactly how and where your money was spent, giving you total control and peace of mind.

How it Works:

If you aren’t able to, we will source suitable candidates for sponsorship and all you need do is make the sponsorship payment.

As a donor, you determine for what amount you wish to sponsor and that is allocated towards the costs of delivering either education or job creation. This includes –

  • A large screen Android modified “cellphone” that becomes a standalone, independent Portable Classroom Device (PCD) with a mains adapter, stand for easy viewing, wired headset for privacy, hard shell protective case in case it is dropped, screen protector and a soft-sided protective bag for extra protection and storage.
  • The full academic content and ebook suite from Pocket Classrooms for the grade for which the student has enrolled (App and ebooks) installed and set up.
  • A SIM card with preloaded data (2GB per month is required). This will only be sent to the SIM card on a monthly basis.
  •  Installation and setup of the RDM software (including an annual subscription). This software modifies the cellphone and converts it into a pocket classroom or Portable Classroom Device (PCD) thereby only enabling the Device to operate for the purposes of accessing this specific educational content. The Device will no longer operate as a cellphone, and all features not relevant to it performing as a Portable Classroom Device (PCD) and for its intended purpose will be disabled. The Device will have no value if it is sold or stolen as the thief or new owner would not be able to use it. This also prevents any misuse from occurring as it cannot be used for any other purpose, other than operating as a remote access mini classroom via Pocket Classrooms. The student cannot access websites that are not allowed, plus unauthorized Apps or programs cannot be installed, sms’s are blocked as are making and receiving calls.
  • Door to door delivery nationwide

As a sponsor, you would determine how many students you wished to sponsor for a twelve month period starting as soon as possible. The current cost is R 12 000 (plus VAT) per year, per student. This includes –

When should a student commence studying during the year?

We run two academic calendars per year; the first is from January to December and the second is from August to June. A student can use either one of these calendars. Also, a student can start studying at any time during the year. Bear in mind that it is not advisable for students to wait until the start of the next academic year before commencing and they should start as soon as they are ready as the delay in waiting will cause anxiety and create massive despondency. After all, we are aiming to get young adults off the streets and studying and being productive as soon as possible. We recommend that a student starting during the year simply goes back into the last grade where they left off, i.e. if they were last in grade 8 or think they may have completed grade 8, then they should enrol for grade 8. In any event, a student’s grade can be adjusted up or down during the year based on their requirements.

What curriculum is used and who delivers the education?

The curriculum offered is the School Leaver Certificate, a curriculum uniquely designed for students that are in need of the type of solution that we offer. We also offer an optional GED (United States and South African accredited) school leaver certification. The academic content is delivered by Pocket Classrooms. See their website for more information – https://pocketclassrooms.info.
